Analysis of Daily U.S. (all 50 States) Record Temperatures, 

January 1- July 29, 2012 compared to January 1 - July 29, 2013

What a stark contrast Year 2013 is compared to last year at this time.

Although the planet continues to run a "fever" and year 2013 is currently the 5th warmest on record for the globe, the U.S. has had a relatively mild or cool year so far. The global data set has 134 years of data (1880-2013).    Link:  monthly Global Temperature Anomaly maps

Highest Minimum temperature is the warmest daily low temperature for a calendar day
Lowest Maximum temperature is the coldest daily high temperature for a calendar day
