Storm Total Snowfall March 9-10th, 2013

A winter storm moved through the region during the weekend of March 9th and 10th, 2013.  The storm brought all weather types including rain, thunderstorms, freezing rain, sleet, and a very small area of heavy snow. Near whiteout conditions were reported at times winds winds of 30 to 40 mph on Sunday.  Below is preliminary map of storm total snowfall at official COOP observing locations in our coverage area that reported data from both days.  We did have several sites that only reported data from either the first day or the second day, but not both, which are not included in this map.  Data outside of our forecast area is also not included. Public data reports are also not included.   Clearly, the axis of heaviest snowfall occurred just north of Interstate 80 where a swath of 11" to 11.5" inches of snow occurred, from David City and Fremont in Nebraska, extending to Little Sioux in northwest Iowa. This area was surrounded by a larger swath of 8" to 9" of snow, from Seward to the Omaha metro area to Harlan Iowa.  On the northern and southern fringes of our coverage area, snowfall was quite light, ranging from just 0.3" at both Bloomfield in far northeast Nebraska to Shubert in far southeast Nebraska.
