Tornado Outbreak April 27, 2011: Part One
















































HISTORIC TORNADO OUTBREAK:


On April 27, 2011 an epic outbreak of tornadoes occurred in the U.S.
A total of 164 tornadoes were reported across the U.S. bringing the total for April 2011 to 685 tornadoes (which is a new record for the month of April). The total for the year, January 1 through April 27 is 877 reported tornadoes. Please note that these are preliminary numbers and will be adjusted downward once the reports are examined for multiple reports for the same storm report.

The first map shows the forecast for the day which was made by the Storm Prediction Center and the verification (that is what happened, on the second map). Note the very close correlation between where severe weather was forecast to occur and where it did. The third map shows the total number of tornadoes for the year through April 28.
